Tips for youth activities with zip

ALL THAT ENERGY just needs a little focus. Try these ideas.

Parents' night out!

Turn a fund-raiser into a service project! Youth can offer free childcare to church members on a one-time or monthly basis. This project is especially just before Christmas. Youth can organize Christmas activities for the children while Mom and Dad enjoy Christmas shopping.

Help cut church costs

A simple, but effective way to help cut church costs during the summer months is to provide free lawn care for the church. Organize youth teams to rotate responsibility for lawn maintenance throughout the summer months. Adult supervision suggested.

We are God's hands

Contact a local shelter or food pantry to volunteer group time. Most of these organizations depend on the work of volunteers to maintain their services and most provide opportunities for group projects. It is a good idea to get a firm commitment from youth so that the shelter/food pantry will know how many to expect.

Just clowning around

Develop a clown ministry that includes both youth and adults. Provide clown ministry in hospitals and nursing homes. Hold clown fairs to pique the interest of parents and children; paint faces, make balloon animals, and create skits with gospel themes. Old and young alike will enjoy this entertaining ministry.

5. Recycle, recycle, recycle

Youth have learned to respect the earth. Their commitment can make a difference in the lives of adults. Arrange for recycling bins to be placed on or near church property, or invite the congregation to bring recyclables to the church for the youth to sort and transport to a recycling center. If a recycling program does not exist in your area, start a letter-writing campaign to appropriate officials.
