General
Youth Council
The General Youth Council is comprised of 15 to 17 members (10 to 12 youth, four adults plus staff) who meet at least once a year to plan, implement, evaluate and resource the general youth ministry program for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
The General Youth Council is selected to represent youth of the denomination from regions and constituency groups.* The General Youth council seeks to be representative of youth in the whole church through a balance in gender, racial/ethnic background, and geographic representation.
Who
can apply
Active youth or adult members of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the U.S. and Canada may apply to serve on the General Youth Council. It is important that applicants be active in congregational, regional and/or constituency youth ministry. Youth members must be completing grades nine or 10 at the time they apply and will be eligible to serve their sophomore and junior or their junior and senior years in high school. Up to six new GYC members are elected each year. Elected members will serve for two years.

to apply
Applications may be obtained from General or Regional or Constituency offices or downloaded. Complete the application form and provide references as indicated on the form and send them by e-mail to tiseming@dhm.disciples.org.
Forms and references MUST be received in the Youth Ministry Office by July 1.
Selection
date
The GYC meets in the summer to make selections.
Term
of service
GYC members serve a two year term, beginning in the fall after the summer they are elected.
