College
Can
you afford it?
Many
students and their families assume that the advantage of a private college
or university like Disciples-related schools are financially out of
reach.
That's usually not the case.
For example:
- Disciples-related institutions' tuition charges on average, are
15 percent less than other such schools. Average room-and-board charge
is 18 percent less.
- In the last 10 years such schools have added $2 in unrestricted
financial aid for every $1 tuition increase.
- About 80 percent of students receive some form of student aid:
on the average, $10,794.
- Many Disciples schools offer financial aid specifically for Christian
Church (Disciples of Christ) members, youth leaders and children of
ministers.
- For middle- and lower-income families, an assistance package including
federal aid, institutional financial aid, work-study employment and
loans can make a Disciples-related college or university just as affordable
as a state school.
